It has been a few years but the YFGA held a wonderful family ice fishing day at fox lake 56 km outside of Whitehorse on April 8th.A short 43 minute drive!
It was a beautiful spring day in the territory as people started to arrive at the Fox Lake campground that had just been freshly plowed thanks to our Parks and Rec Team at YG.
As people started arriving, the fishing location on the ice needed holes drilled and they were greeted by a long time member of the YFGA , Doug Burgis.
We also had Kelly Bulas, a member of the association in the cookshack frying onions, hot dogs and making hot chocolate and helping out wherever she could. Dean Bennett was making popcorn with his little one before people would head out and get down to ice fishing. Thank you to Riverdale Super A forthe donation of dogs and buns.
YFGA Directors, Richard Cherepak and Stephanie Lyons along with her partner John Usselman were boiling and bbqing hot dogs as they greeted people coming off the ice for something to eat and drink . Telling stories and giving advice along with Biologist, Ben Schonnewille from EDI.
It was a really awesome day!
We had about 102 people and it was +4 outside nice and sunny with a little wind.
150 hotdogs, 15 onions, hundred hot chocolate,45 bags of popcorn, 150 cookies.
Patrick’s son Cash Beaucheone handed out Easter eggs to all the kids on the ice.
There were 4 lake trout and one beauty of a burbot caught!
As people walked up to the cookshack they could enter their name in a draw to win a Polar bear deluxe ice fishing tent that was generously donated by Canadian Tire, and the kids could enter a draw for an easter package donated by the YFGA.
The ice tent winner was Skylar Roussea and the kids winner was Tibruce-Nathan Lobe Manga. Congrats!!
I would also like to thank all the members, their families and everyone that drove out for the event. It has been a long winter and also a long few years for everyone but seeing everyone out on the land, enjoying themselves was the best part of the day for me
I hope that everyone enjoyed themselves.
