Letter from YFGA to the Hon. Pauline Frost, Minister of Environment, and the Hon. Ranj Pillai, Minister of Energy, Mines, and Resources expressing our extreme concerns regarding the abuse and overuse of the elk/agriculture conflict hunt as a management tool.
Elk live throughout the entire continent and no other place in North America uses conflict hunts as freely as in the Yukon. We strongly believe that the farming community and people as a whole can peacefully coexist with elk, because jurisdictions across North America have shown us that it is possible.The YFGA played an instrumental role in the reintroduction of elk in the late 20th century, and we remain committed to solving the problem of elk/agriculture conflict.
